Chevrolet Colorado 2009 Oil Life Reset Guide

Chevrolet Colorado 2009 Oil Life Reset Guide

Since the Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon, were introduced, competitors have surpassed them in just about every category. The unrefined five-cylinder engine lacks punch and doesn't offer a fuel-economy advantage over competing V6s. It had to work hard to power the crew cab we tested. The 3.5-liter grew to 3.7 liters in 2007. Handling is sound but unexceptional. The ride is unsettled, and the body constantly quivers. The huge 48-foot turning circle makes parking a chore. Electronic stability control is standard as of 2009 and a 5.3-liter V8 is available. 2010 brings curtain air bags.

Resetting the Oil Life System
The Oil Life System calculates engine oil life based on vehicle use and displays CHANGE OIL on the Driver Information Center when it’s necessary to change the engine oil and filter. The Oil Life System should be reset only following an oil change.

To reset the Oil Life System:

1. Turn on the ignition, with the engine off.
2. Press and release the control stem on the instrument cluster until OIL LIFE is displayed.
3. Once the alternating OIL LIFE and RESET messages appear, press and hold the control stem until several beeps sound. This confirms that the Oil Life System has been reset.
4. Turn off the ignition.
