Chevrolet Colorado 2004 Oil Life Reset Guide

The Colorado is the replacement for the S-10 compact pickup truck and is a twin of the GMC Canyon-the Sonoma's replacement. Both are available in regular-, extended-, and crew-cab versions. ABS is standard. Four-wheel drive is optional, but it's only a part-time system, unsuitable for use on dry pavement. These new trucks are powered by either a 2.8-liter four-cylinder or 3.5-liter five-cylinder. Both engines are a bit crude and noisy. A V6 won't be offered. Shifting is done via either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual. The cabin is fairly quiet, and ride and handling are more accomplished than in other compact pickups.

How to Reset the CHANGE OIL Message 
The GM Oil Life System calculates when to change your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where you change your oil prior to a CHANGE OIL message being turned on, reset the system. Always reset the engine oil life to 100% after every oil change. It will not reset itself.

To reset the CHANGE OIL message, do the following: 

1. Display OIL LIFE on the DIC.

2. Press and hold the reset stem. The oil life will change to 100% and a beep will sound.

3. Turn the key to LOCK.

 If the CHANGE OIL message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
